Prof Dr Luis Alberto Carvalhinho Sport Sciences School of Rio Maior / Polytechnic Institute of Santarém, Portugal
Luís Alberto Dias Carvalhinho holds a Ph.D. in Sports Sciences and is currently employed at the Rio Maior School of Sports. As a Professor Coordinator, he serves in various capacities, including being the Coordinator of the Sports of Nature and Active Tourism undergraduate program, a member of the Technical-Scientific Council, a member of the Pedagogical Council, and the Coordinator of the Scientific Sub-Area of Sport Pedagogy. Additionally, he assumes the role of Coordinator for the Technical Specialization Area in Sports of Nature and Active Tourism. His academic and administrative roles reflect his expertise and commitment to the field of sports and education.
🎓Education:
Between October 1, 2022, and November 29, 2022, he successfully completed the Professional Title of Sports Coach with a specialization in Triathlon, achieving a score of 17 at the Triathlon Federation of Portugal. On March 4, 2022, he concluded a First Aid training program related to sports in nature, focusing on Nature Sports, at the Rio Maior School of Sports in Spain. From October 2021 to December 2021, he accomplished a Coach Training program with a specific training component in Sports, majoring in Sports, approved by the Triathlon Federation of Portugal. Additionally, from February 2021 to March 2021, he completed a Technical Training program in Cycling with a major in Sports – Cycling, accredited by the Portuguese Cycling Federation. In 2013, he successfully concluded a course on Teaching Surfing in Schools at the Polytechnic Institute of Santarém, Portugal. These certifications and training experiences underscore his commitment to continuous professional development in various sports-related disciplines.

Positions / Appointments:
He currently serves as the Institutional Representative of the Instituto Politécnico de Santarém (IPSantarém) for the Association of Development of the Serras de Aire e Candeeiros (ADSAICA) since October 17, 2022. Additionally, from 2020 to the present, he holds the position of Institutional Representative for the School of Sports of Rio Maior (ESDRM) within the Polytechnic Institute of Santarém (IPSantarém) for the Network of Schools of Sports of Portuguese Polytechnic Higher Education (REDESPP). Moreover, since December 2018, he has been a member of the Coordinating Committee of the Master’s in Recreation Sports within the REDESPP framework, involving the Polytechnic Institute of Santarém and the University of Algarve. Further, he has been an active member of the National Scientific Council for the CITUR Research Center at IPSantarém since 2018. Additionally, he holds a co-opted position on the Technical-Scientific Council at the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria’s School of Tourism and Technology in Peniche since 2016. His longstanding commitment to IPSantarém is evident through his continuous involvement in its Scientific Council, Technical-Scientific Council, and Pedagogical Council since the year 2000. These roles demonstrate his dedication to the academic and institutional development of sports education in Portugal.
Projects:
In 2019 and 2020, he participated in the ERASMUS + Staff Mobility for Teaching Research Fellow program at PL GDANSK06, representing the Instituto Politécnico de Santarém, specifically the School of Sports in Rio Maior, Portugal. Serving as a Research Fellow, this concluded in July 2020. Currently, from June 19, 2023, onwards, he is the Principal Investigator for the Plano de Cogestão do Parque Natural das Serras de Aire e Candeeiros, a co-management plan involving the Instituto Politécnico de Santarém, School of Sports in Rio Maior, Portugal, and the Secretariat of State for Nature Conservation, Forests, and Territory Planning in Portugal. His active involvement showcases his dedication to international academic collaboration and ongoing contributions to environmental conservation initiatives.
