Dr Francis Ochieng  Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Kenya

He is a seasoned expert in computer programming and mathematical modeling, accumulating over ten years of experience in both industry and academia. His proven track record is marked by successful development and deployment of intricate software solutions, coupled with a proficiency in handling complex mathematical modeling tasks. In a recent project, he undertook the analysis of Unisoft’s sales data, leveraging his skills to identify trends, patterns, and key drivers of sales performance.

🎓Education:

He is currently a Ph.D. Scholar in Applied Mathematics at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in Nairobi, Kenya, focusing on the wax deposition issue in oil and gas pipelines. Under the supervision of Prof. Mathew N. Kinyanjui, Prof. Jeconia O. Abonyo, and Dr. Phineas R. Kiogora, his research applies mathematical and computational concepts to address challenges in the industry. He has presented three progress reports and published a research article in the Scopus-indexed Journal of Applied Mathematics. Previously, he completed an M.Sc. in Computational Mathematics at Pan African University, investigating hydromagnetic Jeffery-Hamel unsteady flow of non-Newtonian fluid. Awarded a scholarship by the African Union Commission, his research explored fluid dynamics in a divergent conduit, offering insights applicable to engineering and technology. He holds a First-Class Honors B.Sc. in Mathematics and Computer Science from Jomo Kenyatta University and achieved an impressive A- (minus) in his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education at Usenge High School. His academic journey began at Mituri Primary School, where he scored 309 out of 500 marks in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education.

In August 2023, he actively participated in the 7th Annual Conference at The Co-operative University of Kenya, Karen, Nairobi, exploring the theme “The Role of Social Solidarity Economy in Sustainable Development, Climate Change, and Adaptation.” His engagement in academic development continued with a Workshop for Curriculum Review for BSc. Industrial Mathematics at SAJOREC, JKUAT in March 2022. Notably, he received a Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) research grant in November 2017 to support his M.Sc. Thesis in Computational Mathematics. This was preceded by being awarded an African Union Commission scholarship in August 2016 for his master’s degree in Computational Mathematics at the Pan African University Institute for Basic Sciences Technology and Innovation (PAUSTI). His commitment to academic excellence earned him the Principal’s Award in December 2014 and the Vice Chancellor’s Award in June 2012 during his B.Sc. studies in Mathematics and Computer Science.

Experience:

Since May 2021, he has been serving as a Data Analyst at Unisoft, based in Washington, USA, in a remote capacity. One of his notable projects, titled “Unisoft Sales Performance Analysis,” involved a comprehensive examination of Unisoft’s sales data to discern trends, patterns, and influential factors in sales performance. He adeptly utilized data analysis techniques for cleaning and preparing sales data, applied data visualization methods to craft insightful charts and graphs, and implemented business intelligence principles to identify key performance indicators (KPIs) and track sales performance over time. His proficiency in programming languages, including Python, Flask, MySQL, and Tableau, contributed to the project’s success. The outcomes of this project were significant, revealing the most profitable sales channels, product categories, and customer segments. The insights gained facilitated data-driven decision-making at Unisoft, leading to improvements in sales results.
